Whilst there may be any number of discharge types of equipment (mechanical; pneumatic; gravity;), only two fundamental methods apply:-
* Discharge using the delivery service provider’s equipment, or
* Discharge using the receiver’s on-site equipment.
The first is commonly achieved by tipping trailers with an on-board rotary valves and blowing equipment, known as Self-Discharging Units (SDU). Such units carry their own connection hoses (piping) for connection to the receiver’s silo in-feed pipe. The advantage of such units, is that it lessens the amount of capital equipment the receiver has to invest in.
The second requires the receiver to have invested in their own on-site blowing system, which requires a air-filter, blower, rotary vale and conveying pipeline. In addition, the blower needs to be housed in its own room to protect people from the noise of the blower. Alternatively, an acoustic blower hood would be required.
